About

Hi, my name is Jim Porter.  During the majority of my 35 year career as an Electronics Technician for the United States Postal Service, I pursued my hobby of gold prospecting and metal detecting as a “weekend prospector”.  I use techniques and tools that I have learned about since I was a kid to help in my search for buried treasures.  In the United States and in other countries as well, if using a metal detector, one might find some of the coins that I have described in this article.  Best of luck in the hunt!

I have coin that may be of interest to you; 2009 D 1st Issue Bicentennial coin. It is spear going below President Abraham Lincoln’s chest.

What you may have is a “die clash” error, where elements of the obverse design (“Heads” side of coin) are transferred to the reverse side when no planchet (coin blank) is present between the dies when they press down with tons of force, causing the high points in the reverse design to be pressed into the obverse die. You may be seeing a log from the cabin on the obverse.
